IQNA – A Lebanese political analyst said the Iranian missile and drone attack on Israel this weekend changed the equation in the West Asia region.

Lebanese political analyst Maan Bashour

Late on Saturday and in the early hours of Sunday, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) launched “extensive” retaliatory missile and drone strikes against the occupied territories in retaliation for the Israeli regime’s attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus that led to the martyrdom of seven IRGC members on April 1.

The Corps announced launching the strikes in a statement on Saturday night, defining the mission as “Operation True Promise”.

Opening the statement with verse 22 of Surah As-Sajdah which reads “We will take revenge on the criminal,” the IRGC said “In response to the Zionist regime’s numerous crimes, including the attack on the consular section of Iran’s Embassy in Damascus and the martyrdom of a number of our country’s commanders and military advisors in Syria, the IRGC’s Aerospace Division launched tens of missiles and drones against certain targets inside the occupied territories.”

It also closed the statement by quoting verse 126 of Surah Al-Imran: “No victory is real unless it is from God, the Majestic and All-wise.”

Hours after the unprecedented Iranian operation against the Zionist regime, Lebanese analyst Maan Bashour wrote an analysis in which he said the attack created a new equation between the two sides, based on which the response to any Israel attack will be from inside Iran not from Tehran’s allies in the axis of resistance.

He said it shows that Iran was committed to the pledge made by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei about retaliating the Israeli regime’s Damascus attack.

It was also a response to all attempts at questioning Iran’s ability to confront the Zionist regime, he added.

Bashour also stated that Iran’s retaliatory attack was a lesson for Arab and Muslim countries that they have the ability to directly confront the Zionist regime and defeat it.

According to the analyst, the operation further proved that Iran has managed to build up a strong and advanced military arsenal despite decades of sanctions, and now Tehran’s enemies are well aware of its capability to respond to any threat.

Bashour also noted that Iran’s response was all-Iranian and not reliant on allies and other members of the axis of resistance.

The Iranian response to the Israeli terrorist attack in Damascus boosted the morale of masses in Arab and Muslim countries, especially in Palestine and the Gaza Strip, showing that they have not been abandoned in their confrontation with the Zionists, he stressed.

He went on to say that Iran’s Operation True Promise was carried out in continuation of the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation and its outcomes should be in the interest of the people of Palestine and the Gaza Strip.
